Envato is a collection of online marketplaces that connect people in need of digital content with animators, designers, web developers and musicians.
Since its launch in 2006, more than 5 million people have purchased a digital product from an Envato marketplace to use in their creative project. Examples include graphics for segments on TV shows, music for TV ads, video footage for a YouTube channel or a website template for a new business.
Envato also operates Envato Studio, a web platform that connects people with hand-picked freelancers. A typical use case is for a customer to purchase a WordPress theme on Envato Market, then hire a developer from Envato Studio to help them customise it.
Envato Tuts+ is the company’s education publishing platform. It hosts creative educational content such as tutorials, how-to instructional videos, courses and eBooks.
Envato employs over 200 people at its Melbourne head office and 70 remote workers around the world. It also helps thousands of creatives around the world earn a living selling their work and services on Envato's platforms. The company’s founders includes Cyan Ta’eed, who was awarded the 2015 Telstra Victoria Businesswoman of the Year Award.
The majority of Envato’s revenue comes from overseas transactions, with major markets including the US, Canada and Europe. The company’s total community earnings to date exceed $400 million.
Judges described Envato as a great testimony of both entrepreneurial spirit, start-up culture and business acumen: a digital company for the digital age.
