The 2013 Australian Export Awards winner in the Manufacturing category is RØDE Microphones.
RØDE designs, manufactures, installs and services a diverse range of audio products, including loudspeakers, amplifiers, customer electronics and microphones.
RØDE evolved from the Freedman Electronics, which was established in 1967 by Henry and Astrid Freedman, who had immigrated to Australia from Sweden. The company now has a state-of-the art manufacturing plant in Silverwater, Sydney, and sales, logistics and research and development offices in Hong Kong and the United States.
RØDE has a wide distribution network – 76 international distributors and more than 2,000 retail dealers in 108 global territories.
In 2013, RØDE’s export sales experienced a ten per cent increase over the previous year, while the company shipped 350,000 microphones, a thirty per cent increase over 2011-12.
In the past year the company has also diversified into software development, producing a field recorder for Apple iOS devices.
The Australian Export Award judges commended RØDE s’ demonstrated high level of proficiency and innovation across all areas of the business which delivered excellent outcomes in the export market. The judges also made special mention of the company’s Australia-based manufacturing facilities and overseas distribution channels, and noted that these underpin RØDE’s growing product offering and impressive multi-channel marketing strategy.
