Victorian-based Ecotech manufactures and exports air monitoring instruments and systems around the world.
Founded in 1976 to service instrumentation used in the Australian air quality monitoring market, Ecotech soon developed its own brand of instrumentation and software. Today the company offers a comprehensive package of instrumentation, software, integrated systems and services that are used in ambient air, blast and climate change monitoring applications.
Ecotech began exporting in the early 1990s and now sells its products and services globally, with major markets in China, India, the Middle East, and the United States. During 2013, new markets have been established in Bulgaria, Ecuador, Panama and Russia.
Over the past twenty years, Ecotech has used a distributor-based export model in order to minimise costs and risks, and now has a distributor network that encompasses more than seventy countries.
The Export Award judges commended Ecotech on their demonstrated ability to innovate and sell new products into new market segments globally, noting that the company’s export marketing activities and strategy have shown that it has been adaptive and responsive to customer needs and new areas.
Ecotech has recently broken into the research market with a niche range of climate change instrumentation and has won its first export contract for air quality data management outside Australia. The company has also developed partnerships with R&D groups to take their joint solutions to customers – another example, observed the judges, of Ecotech’s innovative partnering approach that shows the company’s competitive strengths and ability to identify and pursue opportunity.
A great exporter success story, the judges said.
